Q Evaluate Your Capstone Project Work assignment this week is to draft your individual multimedia presentation and then provide feedback to your fellow team members, implementing the feedback skills discussed on the following page. Step 1: Review the Presentation scenario Good news, your local state representative was impressed by your elevator pitch. So much that her aide just emailed you requesting a short presentation to share with her colleagues. Like your elevator pitch, your goal is to not only convince your audience that your social justice issue is a priority concern but also explain how psychological theory can help diagnose and remedy the issue. This time, however, you won’t be delivering your argument directly, you’ll be relying on a presentation. And a traditional boring slide deck isn’t going to get the job done! Clearly, this is a task that will demand ethos, logos, and pathos! Step 2: Review the Presentation requirements This multimedia presentation will build on the one that you created back in Module 2, but now will be informed by your subsequent research and Literature Review as well as what you've learned about constructing persuasive arguments. Your presentation should include the following: • identification of the social justice issue • an explanation of why this social justice issue is important • an explanation of your interest in the issue • an example of the issue in the workplace (or other space) • your hypothesis about why the issue exists, supported with theory and empirical evidence (properly cited/referenced in APA format) • overview of your research findings • your solution about how the issue can be managed/change can be effected • your vision of a future where your solution has been implemented • your call to action -- what you want your audience to do Step 3: Create an engaging and professional 3-5 minute multimedia presentation To be clear, this is an individually developed presentation for the social justice issue that you completed your Literature Review for. Be sure to employ storytelling best practices (Links to an external site.) and apply what you've learned about creating persuasive arguments and establishing ethos, logos, and pathos, as well as general presentation best practices. Your presentation should utilize images/graphics, writing, and audio, and/or video. You can complete your presentation as a video, Powerpoint with voiceover, VoiceThread, or other platform approved by your instructor. • Our Audio/Video instructions page provides resources on different recording options as well as recording tips. Note that any VoiceThread presentation must be created via the course VT Home Page and not via an external account. For maximum points, your presentation must include all step 1 content requirements as well as the following: • 10 to 15 slides or similar. • Voice-over/video by you, presenting the information (maximum of 3 minutes) • Supporting graphics/images • Proper APA-formatted citations (Author, year on the slide it is used) and references (include a "Reference" slide at the end of your presentation) of scholarly evidence • Employ best practices in delivering your material. These include: • o Be concise and clear. Information presented visually (in text or graphics) does not necessarily need to be repeated in your voice-over. o Do not just read your slides!?Use keywords, bullet points, and images to convey, illustrate, or emphasize important information.?Use your voice-over to add the remaining information.? o Work from a script. Scripts help you sound more focused and polished. Step 4: Post your presentation draft to the team discussion forum below. As a video file or a VoiceThread link. This assignment is due by 11:59 pm ET on Thursday. • Note that 50% of your grade for this assignment is based on submitting a presentation attempt that legitimately seeks to address the requirements. Review this assignment's rubric at the bottom of the page. Step 5: Review our presentation on effective feedback (see next page) And complete the associated Project Journal assignment. This will prepare you to provide (and receive) feedback in an optimal manner. • Please do not attempt to complete your peer review prior to completing these activities. Step 6: Download the Multimedia Presentation Peer Review form/rubric Download Multimedia Presentation Peer Review form/rubric This is a similar rubric (customized for ease of student use) that will be utilized by your instructor to grade your presentation in Module 8 (and assess your revised draft in Module 7). Step 7: Watch and assess your fellow teammates' presentations using the downloaded rubric For each of your teammates' presentations, complete the downloaded rubric form—being sure to place an X in the appropriate box for each criterion and provide accompanying commentary that highlights both strengths and room for improvement. Be as specific as possible with your comments including time-stamping your comments as relevant (at the 1:38 mark...) • For ease of assessment, the specific components referenced by a criterion (e.g., the presentation requirements outlined in Step 1 are also included in your rubric form). Step 8: Post your peer review as a reply to your teammates' presentation post Be sure to attach your document to your reply along with any questions you have. Note that asking relevant questions is a key to providing meaningful feedback and is part of the assignment. • As will typically be the case in your professional lives, this is NOT anonymous feedback. Employ everything that you've learned to ensure your feedback is meaningful and delivered in a fashion that will allow it to be optimally received by your teammates. • 50% of your grade for this project work will be based on the quality of the feedback you provide. Step 9: Monitor this forum for follow-up questions regarding provided feedback • Your teammates may seek clarifications (likely during Module 7) as they go about implementing changes to their presentation Evaluation The LAPSY 498 Multimedia Presentation Draft and Peer Review rubric explains how your efforts in this assignment will be evaluated. Team assignments are worth 20% of your final grade. Outcomes This activity assesses the following module outcomes: • M6-01: Deliver a complex presentation that follows instructions. (CO1, CO2, CO3, CO4, CO6) • M6-02: Provide informative feedback to peers to improve project quality. (CO6, CO7)
